A voice boomed out, from heaven above
Strong and important, but so full of love
“What have you done? My most prized Creations?
You’ve tarnished the world with you’re ‘bominations!”
And people were terrified, struck down with fear
At the sound of a voice none thought they would hear
And God, he continued, with a hint of distress
“I gave you a planet, and you’ve made it a mess
I told Adam and Eve, from my seat in the sky
Go out, be fruitful and please multiply
But what do I get for all my troubles and labour?
6 billion people but not even one neighbour”
A great outpouring of people into the street
All sure that they’re end soon they would meet
Took a break from running and fearing they’d die
To stop and look up to the voice in the sky
“Was it something I did?” asked God in dismay
“Something I did wrong, for it to end up this way?
I gave you my son, to help you repent
And what did I get for the gift I had sent?
War upon war has been waged in his name
The name of the Lord has been put out to shame”
And all over the world, people began to re’lize
They’d been so caught up in the race; they’d missed the true prize
They’d gone after the money and earthly possession
When they should have pursued forgiveness at confession
They let out a shout in near perfect unison
“Forgive us O Lord, Absolve us of our sin!
We’ve stolen, and lied, and beaten and killed
At the art of war we’ve become very skilled
But now we all know that what we’ve done was wrong
And that our faith in you now has never been so strong”
And God looked down from his perch high above
With a smile on his face full of undying love
“I forgive you” he said in his kindest voice
“I expected all this when I gave you free choice
But every now and then I need to remind you
That the things that you do make me quite blue
You take me for granted and lie and you steal
And I am expected to aid you, to help and to heal
When ever you need me to help you all out
Look up to the heavens and give me a shout”
And the people of the earth felt the loving embrace
Of a God none had ever seen face to face
And they knew then and there they had to make changes
And abolish all war and weapons test ranges
They had to clean up their act if they wanted a chance
To avoid meeting Satan and his frightful flaming lance.
The moral of the story is simple and neat
Being good people is no extraordinary feat
All it takes is a little reminder from above
And an open heart full of joy and love
